“Are we there yet?”
My children - like many others - ask this question during long (and sometimes short!) car rides. Since we’re literally in a moving car, the answer is simple: “If you’re asking, we must not be there yet.”
So this summer, while I was meeting with several community partners, discussing our local response to the statewide housing crisis, and found myself wondering, “is this pandemic over? Are we there yet?” I realized...if I’m asking, we must not be there yet. But I’m ready. The “car ride” has been long, the road has been anything but smooth, and I’m willing to guess that we’re all getting tired.
One thing is certain: we’re not going to “turn this car around” and go back to where we started. United Way of Addison County (UWAC) is working with our community partners and the 30 nonprofits that we proudly support to reimagine how Addison County can better support those who need us most, and we’re driving toward that. But we can’t do this alone - we need your help.
The intersection of COVID and inequity has only widened the gap in health, financial stability, and education.
